React is a JavaScript library for building modern website interfaces. It came out of Facebook and is developed with the backing of Instagram and a very large community of developers.
There is no shortage of JavaScript libraries aiming at the same problem — Angular from Google, for one. The two are not rivals in any strict sense: they specialise differently, and a project can use both.
React is behind the interfaces of Netflix, Yahoo, Airbnb, Sony, Atlassian and a great many others.
